What the bible says about-Slander-Gossip

Christians live by the bible so we react accordingly. The world lives by it's own feelings and ideas and react accordingly. The world justifies its actions. Christians are convicted by their (our) actions.

quoting

Leviticus 19:16 – “Do not go about spreading slander among your people. Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life. I am the Lord.” (NIV)

Proverbs 11:13 – “A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.” (NIV)

Romans 1:29 – “They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips.” (NIV)

1 Timothy 5:13 – “Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to.” (NIV)

Matthew 7:1 – “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” (NIV)

Proverbs 18:8 – “The words of gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man’s inmost parts.” (NIV)

====

Dealing with the truth of matters are difficult enough but a solution is possible.
But when you slander and spread gossip and lies you show only who you really are.

It is very sad to see Christians behaving and participating as the world, along side the world, a part of the world. It is no wonder our nation is as it is, behaving as though there is no God, no one to answer to.
God have mercy.

Re: What the bible says about-Slander-Gossip

One thing I've noticed that Christians sometime do is to justify gossip by framing it in the form of a prayer request. Something like "We need to pray for 'Joe' since he has such-and-such a problem." Then we all start talking about Joe's problems. Granted, we do need to be concerned if "Joe" has some problems, but we may not have the full story, and even if we do, it is very often gossip when we tell others about it.

Is there something going on at one of the other forums that brought this on? Winkks didn't mention Garyco at all in his original post, and yet Garyco thinks it was directed at him.

I don't believe I've seen that poem. I'd love to read it.

Actually I was thinking about all of us as Christians. Myself included. There was a statement made by a famous political figure that claims to be a Christian while slandering in almost the same breath. This bothers me a great deal.

I'm so sorry gary that you feel the way you do about me. If I have offended you I apologize. It seems your passion of politics clashes with my passion of truth and my awful timing.

I for the life me cannot imagine when and why you have taken such a hateful turn towards me.

I'm sorry for being inappropriately out of place. God bless you all and take care.

Agreed. However, do Christians never attempt to justify themselves? People call us hypocrites, but I would disagree. Hypocrisy is not a Christian thing, but a human thing. Prov 20:6 says most men will proclaim everyone their own goodness.... we are a wicked lot and not one is found righteous.

Now, I don't get too much into political discussions, but I am not happy with our current leadership. I, like gary, am afraid of what's coming. I've looked into this man's church of the past 20 years, I've seen who he's been aligned with, I see his values on abortion, gay rights and even racism issues.
But what scares me the most, is the fact that so many people will overlookall of these things as if they don't even matter.
It reminds me of the great delusion mentioned in the Bible, and of Carpathia in the Left Behind series. I'm not saying that the man is the anti-Christ, but I see people almost worshipping him, thinking he can do no wrong, and I wonder exactly what sort of agenda he really has. I don't trust him, and the fact that so many others will put so much blind faith into a man scares me.

Now then, let's look into some Scripture.
quoting

Leviticus 19:16 – “Do not go about spreading slander among your people. Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life. I am the Lord.” (NIV)

Is anyone doing this here? Where does this come from?

quoting

Proverbs 11:13 – “A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.” (NIV)

Has someone betrayed a confidence here?

quoting

Romans 1:29 – “They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips.” (NIV)

This one is speaking of the wrath of God.
CONTEXT
In context, it speaks of man's wickedness, thinking we are wise, but with darkened hearts, nothing but fools. It speaks of idolatry, homosexuality and how they not only continue all these things, but also approve of those who practice them. This brings to mind the gay rights issue and abortion that our president approves of.
Yet so many fail to recognize this, and are angry at those who do.

quoting

1 Timothy 5:13 – “Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to.” (NIV)

Is someone doing this here? Should message boards even exist?

quoting

Matthew 7:1 – “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” (NIV)

Oh, hold on now! The most misquoted verse in all of Scripture, I cannot let this one go by unchallenged!
The Bible is clear, we ARE to judge those inside the Church (1 Cor 5:12-13), and those outside will be judged by God. Scripture tells us that it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
As a matter of fact, it says to first take the plank out of our own eye, and then we will see clearly to remove the speck from our brother's eye. Doesn't that say that we actually ARE to judge, but to first check ourselves?
A few verses later Jesus said, "Beware of false prophets...You will know them by their fruits" (Matthew 7:15,16,20). We'll know them, how? By using our discernment and making a judgment.
What about Matt 18:15-17? How can you show your brother fault without making some kind of judgment?

quoting

Proverbs 18:8 – “The words of gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man’s inmost parts.” (NIV)

Again, who is gossiping here? I really don't think that political discussions on message boards actually qualify.

quoting

But when you slander and spread gossip and lies you show only who you really are.

Who? I would have to agree with gary, this certainly did seem to be aimed directly at him for his views in that previous post. Especially since this subject has come up before between the two of you.
quoting

It is no wonder our nation is as it is, behaving as though there is no God, no one to answer to.
God have mercy.

Agreed, which is why the whole thing scares me. As I understand it, the homosexual agenda is being promoted and attempts are being made already to overturn the marriage protection. Abortion remains legal and even partial birth abortion is condoned by our current leader. God have mercy indeed.
Come, Lord Jesus. emoticon
