Praying The Bible
Has anyone else tried praying through parts of the Bible using the Ignation Contemplation method of prayer? (It is a way of imagining- or contemplating on- yourself in whatever passage you are reading, so that the text becomes not just words, but alive, and Jesus, if Jesus is in the passage, becomes intimate with you.)
I have tried this method of prayer and reading the Bible through a book called Friendship with Jesus by David L. Miller. I think it brought me closer to being able to actually feel close to Jesus, to sit with Him and pray with Him and be with Him. I find myself most intimate with God when I can imagine Him personally for myself. I think using the Ignation Contemplation method of prayer is amazing.

Re: Praying The Bible
I have never heard of it, but it sounds interesting. I'll have to look into it more and see what I can learn about it.

Re: Praying The Bible
That does sound interesting, but I gotta confess I have never heard of it either.

Re: Praying The Bible
I've heard of using passages such as the Psalms to pray praises back to God, but I'll have to research Ignation Contemplation, since I've never heard of it either.

Re: Praying The Bible
I found the following website that explains Ignation Contemplation in much the same way Cassie did. God does want us to meditate on His Word, and this does seem like an interesting way to do so.

Re: Praying The Bible
So, has anyone given Ignation Contemplative prayer a try yet? Let me know how it goes. I'm trying a new method of praying the scriptures, I am praying the psalms, which is just me reading a psalm, seeing what it says to me, rewriting it as though it is for me, and then contemplating what meaning it holds. I haven't been doing it long, but it has been interesting so far.

Re: Praying The Bible
That does seem like a good way of considering the psalms. Many of the ways that David worded his praise statements can apply to us today just as they did for David, but just as David had his own unique life experiences that he went through, so do we, and we can reword David's praises to make them fit whatever situations we ourselves are in.

Re: Praying The Bible
I never thought of this as anything special before now but I have done something like this when going through Proverbs.
