Re: Christian convert runs away from home Wednesday, October 14, 2009
A 17-year old girl who fled from her home, fearing her Muslim parents would kill her for converting to Christianity, must go back to Ohio, a Florida judge ruled Tuesday.
Judge Daniel Dawson ruled Ohio has jurisdiction over the case involving the teen, Rifqa Bary.
Before the girl gets sent back, the judge says he needs immigration papers proving her status in the U.S. and proof from the state of Florida that she can continue her virtual schooling and receive credit in Ohio.
She is expected to be placed in foster care when she returns and will also be provided with psychiatric evaluations. Her parents will also receive psychiatric evaluations.
Rifqa can be back in Ohio as early as this week, or by an Oct. 23 follow-up hearing.
Re: Christian convert runs away from home Gotta say I am a little surprised about that verdict.
But based on that fact that she is nearly an adult.....it's probably the best for her
--- Peace, that brief period in history when everyone stops to reload.
Re: Christian convert runs away from home There was a case in Toronto in 2007 in which a 16 year old girl was killed by her father and brother because she refused to wear a hijab. I believe that her mother has also now been charged. This girl's life is absolutely at risk. It is quite possible family members will hunt her down.
Re: Christian convert runs away from home I look foreward to hearing more about this case. The only thing that would cause me to question Rifqa's claim that her parents were extremists is the fact that she was a cheerleader at her school. I question whether her parents would let her dress in a cheerleader uniform and perform with the cheerleading team if they were conservative Muslims. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
