Re: Board Games

Rail Baron is a game of railroad empire building. You make random trips across country on railroads and get paid by the length of the trip. Obviously it is cheaper to travel on railroads owned by yourself or at least one that is not owned by anyone else.

When the game starts you are at the start of the railroad era (wood fired steam engines) and as the game progresses you are given the chance to upgrade to newer and newer engines which give you the opportunity to move faster and faster.

The end game can be tricky since you have to get back to your home city with $200,000 before anyone else does.

My oldest daughter mentioned to me that she likes a railroad game called Ticket to Ride. It costs 37 dollars though. Maybe I can find it at a thrift store. It contains a whole bunch of little railroad cars, though, so i couldn't be sure a thrift store purchase would have all the pieces.

I was talking to a person on Sunday who wants to eventually get a certain railroad game, but she couldn't think of the title. It turned out to be Ticket to Ride. The game costs over 50 dollars these days, but I'm still looking for it.

My parents have a board game called Rat Race, it's similar idea as Monopoly, probably predates it. We play it every now and then. Typically around Christmas or New Year's eve time.

Here is a pic of what it looks like:

Quite impressive that it's from 1973, did not realize it was that old. I suppose they may have had different versions but that does indeed look like the one they have.

I have a bookshelf game which I find unique because it is a "community" chess like game. It is called "Feudal" and you can play it as a 2, 4, or 6 player game. Good games will last about 1-1/2 hours before a winning team can be determined.

Re: Board Games

I bought Ticket To Ride for myself at Christmas last year, so I finally own it. I'm not sure I would even buy it if I found it at a thrift store. There are so many small pieces that I couldn't be sure a thrift store find would have all the pieces.

My daughter mentioned that she loved playing Mouse Trap as a child. I've seen that three times at thrift stores since she told me, but that game also has small pieces. If any of them are missing, the mouse trap can't be built, so I'm very way of buying it at a thrift store. Maybe if I can find it for just a dollar, I'll take the chance.

Re: Board Games

I just counted the games from my original post in this thread. I counted 69, and then chess was mentioned later in the thread, so my total was 70.

Right now the total number of games that I own is over 260. emoticon
