Re: "friendship of the world is enmity with God"
quoting pepperspaw ...
However, so is our LOVE for others... so we are not told to shun the lost but to teach them (best by BEING than by preaching).....
Yes, however their are many Christians that don't believe this. How fooled they are by their "religion".

Re: "friendship of the world is enmity with God"
Ah, love is important and we should never forget that. Everything should be done in love. However, I would have to disagree with this part: quoting (best by BEING than by preaching).....
We are COMMANDED to preach the Word to every creature (Mark 16:15 ). Yes, our walk should match the talk, but we'd better be witnessing to people on a regular basis, or the blood of the unsaved is on our hands (Ezekiel 33:8-9 ).
How can they hear without someone preaching to them (Romans 10:13-14 )?
"Have you no wish for others to be saved? Then you're not saved yourself, be sure of that!" -Charles Spurgeon
Get out there and preach the Word, and do it in love!

I was going to comment on that line "best by being than by preaching" when I read it on the last page, but I see someone beat me to it. I do think, though, that people need to see us BEING Christians before they will pay much attention to out preaching, and the way that line was written seemed to diminish preaching in a way that I don't think the writer intended. There should definitely be both BEING and PREACHING going together hand in hand without one being more "best" than the other.

Re: "friendship of the world is enmity with God"
Praise the Lord!!! Hi ya'll!!! Bookworm!
====
"What exactly does it mean to be a "friend of the world"?"
If you think the way the world thinks, react the way the world reacts, charge cards, living extravagantly, deep in debt-debt, dressing provocatively, cuss some one out, foul and profane dialogue....
These "few" examples... compromise one's "Christian" integrity. When we compromise our integrity, the "world" sees us as untrustworthy and hypocritical. Instead of a light for a lost and dying world, we become stumbling blocks.
If we compromise our integrity we are not "being" who we say we are.
You can preach till the cows come home, you can compromise your integrity and at the same time preach against the very thing you do, more compromise, and what does the world see? Hypocrite.
quoting Col 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
2Co 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
2Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Being what the world is, is not loving them, it's deceiving them.
If we live by conviction rather than justification, biblical perspective is evident.

Re: "friendship of the world is enmity with God"
Hi brothers! Thanks brother brite-to God be the glory!!
Hey brother mel... Yea, I mostly lurk these days, you would be shocked to see some of what I see on these forums, from Christians!!!
It's hard for me to keep up with lengthy babble and down right ugliness. But once in awhile, I feel the Holy Spirit tugging me to say a thing or two. Praise God!!

Ah, me too, Winkks, me too! Sometimes in the past I have found that I was actually treated better on atheist sites than some of the so called "Christian" boards. I've learned to avoid those places.
Good to see ya around!
