What Version do you prefer?

So, what version of the Bible do you prefer? Give us your thoughts as to why you've chosen the one that you have.

Re: What Version do you prefer?

I prefer KJV. I read both KJV and NIV.
I also use my e-Sword desktop bible which has different versions when I'm on the puter.

I love the way the old english language was spoken back in time when KJV was first published. As we know, we don't talk like that no mo so... God's word being revised in the language of understanding is a good thing.
I think the very first version was KJV 1611. Correct me if I'm wrong.

What's bad are books rewritten with mans ideology and theologies as being God's word-the bible when in fact it is not... the bible warns us about doing that.

Another thought;
If we left the word in it's exact original form, we would not be able to read it. So the argument of anything other than KJV being evil is contradictory, because KJV is a revised version of the original word itself.

I prefer the NIV, because I find it easier to understand, and it's the first version I actually read completely. I am currently reading a KJV though - almost done!
I also like to compare different versions.
And I believe that KJ Onlyists are crazy. emoticon
But I say that in as loving a way as possible. emoticon

Hey! LOL...Finally something I'm unrelenting about! j/k (not really though)...

I accidentally clicked KJV instead of KJ Onlyest (is that even a word?)

The fact that the writers went WORD FOR WORD through the old writings to get to the KJV gives it a LOT of weight in my book.
What often bothers me is that some versions (NIV for instance) will leave out mounds of scripture...and I don't really understand why (it's been a while, but I think the entire last chapter of Luke is missing...or the last half of the last chapter)

I'll admit the NLT is laid out in a novel-like form and super easy to read...if all you want is the jist of the story that's the version you should get.

I love the way the KJV reads, almost like poetry. But I must confess I am left baffled most of the time when I read it.
I am mostly a NIV person. I do read from the NASB and the KJV especially for scripture comparison.

I have read several of the easier to read versions (NLT, The Message, NCV) and I don't really care for any of them.

I understand people that cling to their KJV, (as I almost feel the same way about my NIV) but to insist that the KJV is the only legitimate translation is just crazy. Better to learn Greek and Hebrew to read the original writings if you want to be "exclusionary"

Yeah, but sometimes a thought by thought translation is easier to understand. So, you only use the KJV, believing all other versions are corrupted?

emoticon No way! Those "missing Scriptures" are always down at the bottom in the footnotes, and when I read through the NIV, I read every question, footnote and cross reference. Usually the things that were left out, are left in at another Book. I haven't found anything that is left out completely, and no changes to doctrine.

I think a thought by thought version allows opinion to creep in. Why would you need so many versions, if all you needed was Modern English. They are all just a little different because it's what one person thinks it means. IMHO

I don't think they are corrupted per se, but I don't think they hold the same power as KJV. You still get the story, though.

I suppose that's possible. But I have yet to find any doctrinal differnces.

Ah, then you're not a true KJ Onlyist, it's more just a matter of personal preference.

There are a couple versions you need to stay away from, though. The New World Translation has been changed to fit the Watchtower doctrine of the JW's.

I don't think they are divinely inspired...and I guess I would agree that there *could* be some errors or misunderstandings in the translations (but I honestly haven't read any translations other than KJV and New Living Translation)

I think the Modern English versions are inspired by men...I think that the men who translated to the KJV were inspired by the Holy Spirit.

I'm a little confusing on the matter...

I would prefur NKJV, but I normally use NIV, however I trust KJV the most... emoticon
